Global Hope Mobilization Organization (GLOHOMO), with support from Swiss Development Cooperation, has trained frontline health workers in COVID-19 Critical Management.

The organization’s executive director, Caleb Thole, says the gesture is in support of government’s efforts to stop further spread of the diseases that has wreaked havoc in the country.

“As you know that we are now having rising number of cases of the disease, it is also burdening health of our health workers.

“Most of the workers now are managing what is called critical management; so patients who are in need of critical care management but mostly we have shortage of health workers that can do that type of work.

“So, we have partnered with Blantyre District Health Office to train some of key health workers from different hospitals who are managing treatment center at kameza in Blantyre,” he said.

Thole added that the trainees “will be given skills that will enable them to treat patients that are diagnosed with COVID-19.”

Blantyre District Medical Officer, Dr. Zaziwe Gunda, said that “Blantyre does not have a district hospital. We rely on these workers from health centers such as Ndirande.

“With the skills they are getting here, they will take care of our patients very well and we will reduce number of deaths.”

Blantyre has been overwhelmed by the disease where it has seen rising cases of community transmission of COVID-19.
