The National Bank of Malawi (NBM) – Chichiri Service Center in Blantyre has been closed after several of its staff tested COVID-19 positive.

The Bank’s marketing and corporate affairs manager, Akosa Hiwa, says the closure will last for fourteen days.

“In line with the Bank’s COVID-19 Response Plan, the premises will be disinfected to ensure the safety of all customers and employees. All staff operating at the center will be on self-quarantine. A second test will be administered to those that tested negative after the 14-day period and prior to re-opening of the service center.

“Staff that have tested positive shall only return to their workstation upon full recovery from the virus and following a negative test result certified by the Blantyre District Health Office,” she said.

Hiwa said the Bank is implementing several preventive measures such as disinfecting their facilities regularly and allowing customers with face mask only to access the banks to protect staff and clients.

The bank has since urged clients to use digital banking channels in order to bank safely.

Government removed fee on mobile money services to encourage people using soft cash in an attempt to stop further spread of COVID-19 that has gone riot in the country.
