District police publicist Sargent Dickson Matemba told Zodiak on Monday that the incident occurred at Bwalo Village in the area of traditional authority Kasisi.

According Police, the suspect has been identified as Mikeyasi Charles.

Reports indicate that the 18 year old mentally disturbed girl was walking alone when the suspect who was coming from the drinking joint dragged her to a nearby bush and allegedly raped her.

The suspect was caught by the members of the community and taken to police.

The medical report from Chikwawa district hospital revealed that the girl was raped.

"As Police, we are appealing to parents with children with disabilities to take proper care of children with such problems," said Matemba.

Charles hails from Bwalo village in the area of Traditional Authority Kasisi in Chikwawa District.

This comes when the district has registered 28 sexual offences between January and June this year of which 20 are defilement cases.
