The Malawi – Liverpool Wellcome has cherished 18 year old relationship it has with Chikwawa District Hospital by providing it with Personal Protective Equipment.

The Trust says they will be providing the items to the hospital for the next three months.

Human Resource Manager for the Trust, Limbani Medi, says they are concerned with rising numbers of frontline workers contracting Corona virus.

“We are very concerned that a number of frontline workers are being infected with the disease. This is one of the reason why we said we need to assist various hospitals we partner with PPE. One of key needs which those hospitals are indicating is provision of PPE. That is what we have done and we know that it might not be adequate but we think what we have done is significant,” he said.

The hospital’s medical officer, Dr. Wamaka Msopole, says their attention will divert to other issues and not protective equipment.

He said the donation will go a long way in keeping the staff safe from the disease which has caused havoc in the country.

The donated items are 4, 000 N95 masks, 4, 500 surgical masks, 5, 000 plastic aprons and 4, 000 gloves.
