The Electoral Commission wants to add three more witnesses in a case where some people who contested in the parliamentary elections in Nsanje and Chikwawa last year are challenging the results.

The high court hearing the case in Blantyre has therefore adjourned the case which was supposed to resume on Monday [today] following application by the Commission's lawyers to add the witness.

One of lawyers representing petitioners in the case, Wester Kossam, says the case has been adjourned and will resume from 17 to 19 August this year.

Kossam says they have no problem with the application and therefore have not objected it.

“The people are former district commissioner for Nsanje, the then officer-in-charge for Nsanje and the one who was in charge of ICT at the constituency tally center. Those are the three witness that they would like to parade in court,” he said.

In the case, Foster Thipiwa, Enock Chizuzu and Kafandikhale Mandevana are challenging the elections results where the Commission declared Esther Mcheka Chilenje, Francis Kasaila and Sam Khumbanyiwa winners in their respective constituencies in Nsanje and Chiwawa districts.
