A Mulanje based longest serving member of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Mary Chimenya has challenged the Tonse Alliance leaders to put aside their personal interests and work towards developing the country.

Chimenya, 95, from Kululira village in traditional authority Mthiramanja said this on Sunday when MCP Mulanje Patriots under Mighty Tambala Graduates cheered the granny at her house.

“It is meaningless to be occupying political seats without implementing any tangible development,” said Chimenya.

The group’s coordinator Omali Adin said the grouping will take this advice seriously and ensure that the Tonse Alliance government remains in power for unforeseeable years.

“Actually if we happen to start behaving just as youths in previous regimes were doing then there will be no any government to change this conduct,” challenged Adin.

MCP District Chairperson in Mulanje Shelton Mpandowawo hailed the MCP youths for getting involved in charity projects.

“These are the youths Malawi has been longing for and I have urged them to continue what they have started and even cleaning public facilities like markets and hospitals,” said Mpandowawo.

During the visit, the group donated a bag of maize, sugar, relish, cooking oil and soap, to the granny.
