Two ward councilors who won on ticket of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Chiradzulu district have dumped the party and joined the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Fadwick Matemba who was DPP diehard joined the two in joining the governing MCP.

MCP Campaign Director, Moses Kumkuyu, on Wednesday led the welcoming ceremony of the defectors in the district.

“The joining of these councilors into the party is not strange at all because the agenda that we have in MCP is not looking at regional or tribal boundaries. We are looking at Malawians as one. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera wants to reach out to every Malawian with development agenda.

“The Super Hi5 Agenda is to ensure that there is servant leadership and unity to every Malawian; every Malawian prospers and corruption ends so that every Malawian benefits and rule of law is ensured in every part of the country,” he said.

Matemba said he was motivated to join MCP by its ideologies.

“Looking at Chiradzulu district, I thought it wise to join MCP together with the two councilors to help develop the district. Chiradzulu has been underdeveloped since the days of Reverend John Chilembwe over a hundred years ago. We should think of the people in the district on where to get their social amenities,” he said.
