A 60-year-old man is in police custody in Mangochi on suspicion that he killed his friend for suspecting him to have stolen a kilogram of goat meat.

According to Police deputy publicist for the district, Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, who has identified the suspect as Tito Divason, and the victim as Samu Abudu, 40, the incident happened on the night of September 21, 2020 at Ngatala in the district.

“What we have gathered so far, is that the two earlier on that day were having fun together at a drinking spree and the suspect bought one kilogram of goat meat meant to be eaten at home,” said Tepani Daudi.

However, according to Tepani Daudi, Abudu left the suspect at the place going home and when the suspect decided to go home it's when he discovered that the meat was missing.

“The suspect followed Abudu to his house where wrangles erupted after accused him of stealing the meat and in the process the suspect produced a knife and stabbed Abudu on the chest who died on the spot,” explained Tepani Daudi.

Postmortem conducted at Mangochi district hospital revealed that Abudu died due to hemorrhage.

Sub Inspector Tepani Daudi, said Divason who hails from Chimenya Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nkhumba in Phalombe will appear before court soon to answer murder charge which is contrary to section 209 of the penal code.
