The Water Sanitation and Health (WASH) organization, Water for People, has handed over modern toilets and boreholes to Nsoni and Chilimankhwanje primary schools in Chiradzulu.

This is in pursue of its quest to provide water and sanitation services in public institutions in the country.

The organization’s Advocacy and EF Manager, Joseph Magoya, says “our vision is to see the world where everyone has access to safe and clean water but also adequate sanitation.

“We have an approach that each and every community has access to clean and safe water but also sanitation.

“After noting challenges in some public primary schools in the district, we thought of intervening and come up with these facilities,” he said.

The district’s education manager, Allan Machemba, says the facilities are a boost in promoting education among young boys and girls in the district.

“We have challenges in some schools which do not have water and good toilets in the district. We are trying to find some donors who can help us with the facilities.

“Today, Water for People has come to our rescue by donating these facilities. These facilities will help our learners to stay safe in schools,” he said.

The district’s commissioner, Reingard Chavula, said after receiving the facility at Chilimankhwanje on Tuesday that “the facilities will help us in preparation for preventing COVID-19 as schools are set to reopen in all the classes in two weeks’ time.

“Sanitation is part of education. When schools are well sanitized, learners are happy to go to school.”

With support from Charity Water and Thank You Foundation, Water for People has constructed six new latrine blocks and new boreholes amounting to K74 million in the two schools.
