Mulanje district council has not been spared with accusations of negligence when it comes to maintenance of its vehicles.

District Commissioner Stallichi Mwambiwa has conceded the challenge attributing it to lack of enough resources for maintenance of vehicles and motorcycles.

“You would agree with me that a few months ago, we had a lot of vehicles grounded here but now we have started maintaining the vehicles one after another using the very same meager resources we have,” said Mwambiwa.

Meanwhile World Vision Malawi (WVM) has handed over a vehicle, Toyota D4D to the district council.

The vehicle according to WMV Food Assistance Manager Andrew Chimera has been donated to help the council sustain developmental activities which the organization implemented in Kamwendo Area Development Programme the past 17 years.

“For 17 years we have implemented various livelihoods transforming projects in Kamwendo ADP and we expect the district council to sustain these projects,” said Chimera.

Projects which WVM implemented in Kamwendo ADP include food security, education, health and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and child protection.

The donation of the vehicle comes a week after the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) donated 27 motorcycles to the council.
