South West Region Police has called on communities for concerted effort in fighting crime during the festive season.

Spokesperson for the Police, Ramsy Mushani, has also called on motorists and motor bike taxi operators to be extra cautious on the roads to avoid accidents that become rampant during the season.

He has, however, assured people of tight security during the period.

“We want to assure Malawians that as police, we are geared to protect their lives and property and that security will be tight during this festive season.

“We, however, call on the people to be vigilant during this period. If they are leaving their homes for holidays and other trips, they should leave someone they trust to look after the homes.

“We are also appealing to motorists and motor cycle taxi operators to be careful on the roads to avoid accidents. They should make sure that their vehicles are road worthy and follow traffic rules,” he said.

Mushani also urged people to resolve issues amicably and not resort to suicide.

“This is the month when village savings and loans groups share their finances. Some are required to pay back loans. Some people who fail to pay back the loans resort to commit suicide. That is not the way to solve issues,” he said.
