Mia Buried in Chikwawa

The body of Vice President of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Mohammad Sidik Mia  has been laid to rest with a call to government to fulfil all development projects which late Mia lined up to be implemented in the Lower Shire.

Speaking after his burial at around 8pm on Tuesday at Makande under Ngabu area, Chikwawa Council Chairperson Gelard Bede described late Mohammad Sidik Mia as a visionary leader who promoted unity and development in Chikwawa and Nsanje.

"We have lost a visionary and development conscious leader. It’s our hope that government will continue with the projects that he lined up for the Lower Shire," said Bede.

There was somber mood as the body of Mohammad Sidik Mia passed through Thabwa, Dyeratu, Nchalo and Ngabu in Chikwawa from Blantyre.

At Ngabu junction, a lot of villagers gathered in disbelief and tears to witness the arrival of Mia's body.

Mia who was expected to turn 56 years in March this year died of COVID 19 related illness on Tuesday morning.

He is survived by a wife and four children.
