Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC) has presented 50, 000 surgical masks to Blantyre District Health Office in its drive to curb further spread of COVID-19.

NMC Managing Director, Fleetwood Haiya, says they feel obliged to join forces in the fight to save its customers and the nation at large from jaws of the pandemic.

“Upon hearing the address by the state president few days ago, it prompted us to come in. Now COVID-19 is becoming so devastating. Those numbers are coming to people who we know and those who are close to us. We thought it wise that we should not just sit and watch,” he said.

“We manufacture products which are people’s brand. We also sponsor Nyasa Big Bullets which is the people’s team. We thought that the little that we have we can share so that we can protect our soldiers who are the front liners of the COVID-19 fight,” he added.

Blantyre District Medical Officer, Dr. Mirium Nyasulu, says the donation will alleviate some of the challenges they have been facing.

“We really needed this support. Looking at how the disease is spreading; we really need such support. We call upon other well-wishers to emulate this gesture because we still face more challenges.

“We are in dire need of RDT test kits and tents to mount in our facilities to decongest Kameza Isolation Center,” she said.

The donation is worth K25 million.
