Two Jailed for Human Trafficking

First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Mwanza has convicted and sentenced two men to 52 months and 36 months imprisonment with hard labor for human trafficking.

Police prosecutor, Sub–Inspector Jane Juma, said Chikondi Maseko, aged 33 and Misheck Nkhoma 25 were arrested trafficking three Malawians to South Africa through Mwanza on January 21st, 2021.

Juma summoned six witnesses who testified against Maseko and Nkhoma.

He asked the court to give a stiffer sentence to deter others thinking along the same lines.

Maseko and Nkhoma pleaded not guilty.

First Grade Magistrate Smart Maluwasa while passing judgement said human trafficking is a serious offence therefore all perpetrators like the two deserve jail terms.

Magistrate Maluwasa found the two guilty and ordered Maseko to go to jail for 52 months and Mishek to 36 months imprisonment with hard labor.

Maseko comes from Kafodya village TA Phambala in Ntcheu while Nkhoma is from Kaumphawi village TA  Nsamala in Balaka.
