Youth NGO Donates Assorted Items to The Needy

Youths under Milonde Youth Organization (MIYO) in Mulanje district over the weekend donated assorted items to vulnerable households in Traditional Authority Mabuka.

The items donated included sugar, soap, relish, salt, and milk.

MIYO Executive Director McDonald Alfred told Zodiak online that the decision to assist vulnerable people most of them the elderly, orphans, and people with disabilities was arrived at after establishing that poverty has deep-rooted in the community.

“We always expect government and other big organizations to come here and assist vulnerable households yet we can share the little we have with others, and we, therefore, want to set the pace by assisting vulnerable people in this community,” said Alfred.

He said time has come for the youth to get involved in charity works.

79-year-old Silence Mose was among the recipients of MIYO’s donation and he thanked the organization for its gesture.

“My name has always been missing on lists of beneficiaries of different handouts and I am happy that today I am one of the beneficiaries of this donation,” said Mose.

Charles Dines aged 12; an orphan with a single parent also thanked MIYO for the donation.

“All I can say is thank you MIYO and I ask other organizations even individuals to emulate the gesture by this organization and assist other needy people in this community.

According to Alfred, the organization used part of its membership’s monthly contributions to buy the items which they distributed to the needy.
