Care Malawi International says it has invested $1 million (approximately K780 million) in COVID-19 interventions across 14 districts of Malawi.

The organization’s board chairperson, John Makina, says the support is in the form of medical supplies and personal protective equipment and also training of health workers in COVID-19 management.

“COVID-19 has become a critical burden to our already challenged health system and as partners we thought it imperative to support the system in fighting against the disease,” said Makina.

Director of health and social services at Mulanje district council Dr. Alinafe Kalanga said despite registering a decline in COVID-19 positive cases, COVID-19 management support is still required as the battle is not yet over.

“As a council we are worried with relaxation in adhering to COVID-19 prevention measures and what people should know is that we are still in danger and the fight against the disease is not for the health sector alone but we need to join hands in dealing with this monster,” said Dr. Kalanga

Some of the items donated included mattresses, face masks, BP testing machines, thermometers, sanitizers and according to Makina, the consignment is worth K20.2 million.

Two weeks ago, the organization also made a similar COVID-19 donation of K17 million to the facility.
