The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) has indicated that it has an uphill task to achieve the buy a gadget campaign for every student, as out 3, 000 planned gadgets, they have only managed to get less than 500 gadgets.

MUST Vice Chancellor Professor Address Malata has since appealed to various stakeholders to continue supporting the university to achieve a gadget for every student initiative so as to enhance e-learning during Covid 19 pandemic.

“Most of our students come from poor families and they cannot manage to buy the gadgets. This is the reason we started this aggressive campaign to promote e-learning during this time of emergency,” said Professor Malata.

She then commended FDH Bank for rendering a helping hand, asking other companies to emulate the gesture.

She was speaking on Monday afternoon when FDH Bank donated K3 million to the university to support the campaign.

FDH Managing Director Elias Ngalande said they decided to support MUST with money, specifically for them, to procure gadgets for needy leaners.

“Last time, we helped the Malawi Polytechnic, and now we felt it was important to assist MUST, so that students are able to make downloads and do online learning,” said Dr Ngalande.

The Managing Director is of the view that the private sector needs to support such interventions in order to improve education standards in various universities.
