Neno Integrated Youth Centre mobilized youths for a five hundred tree seedling planting exercise around its catchment area.

The Center’s manager, Hope Mwafulirwa, says under the Job for Youth initiative, youths are being encouraged to take care of the environment through among others planting trees.

"A lot of people here depend on charcoal business. This malpractice has resulted in loss of tress which are catalyst for good rains, but now rains are erratic," he said.

The activity, according to Wezi Mhango, chairperson for Neno Student Christian Organization of Malawi connects Christians with their God, saying God created man to look after His creation.

"God wanted us to live in a well-preserved environment, full of tress which give us fruits and other medicinal herbs. So, we are here to reclaim that," says Mhango.

Village Headman Manyoni who graced the occasion assured the youths that the tress will survive, saying he will go round his village telling people to desist from feeding goats on shrubs.

"I will take it upon myself to safeguard these trees. One way will be making sure that goats are not being fed on protected premises. Through that, these trees will survive," he said.
