A prominent education activist says the outside court dialogue between government and Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) should lead to more trust and confidence between employer and employee.

Limbani Nsapato told Zodiak today Tuesday afternoon that the two sides need to urgently start negotiating, insisting that the country needs to have conducive and learning environment in schools to ensure access to quality education for learners.

The Activist has since applauded the decision by the government and TUM to have dialogue outside court.

“As classes have resumed, we hope both parties will be more serious to end the impasse.

“The negotiations will lead to more trust and confidence between the employer and employee and not end in hide and seek,” said Nsapato.

He then reminded the government and TUM to know that the country needs a conducive teaching and learning environment in schools, to ensure access to quality education for learners.

He added that citizens cannot afford to entertain more strikes because of government and TUM’ failure to negotiate and come to a win-win agreement.

On Tuesday morning, some learners from Catholic institute, CI and Namiwawa primary schools in Blantyre called on government and TUM to resolve the disagreement amicably.

They complained that the idleness which they endured during the teachers’ strike was a clear violation of their right to education.
