Despite a significant drop in COVID-19 cases and a slight ease of some COVID-19 restrictions, District Medical Officer for Mulanje, Dr. Lloyd Njikho says the virus is still with us and therefore no need to relax much.

Dr. Njikho who said this on Thursday when Plan Malawi International made a donation of K10 million worth of COVID-19 prevention and treatment and environmental cleanliness materials to Mulanje District Council said all preventive measures need to be observed to prevent registering a third wave of COVID-19.

“I therefore call upon organizations and individuals of good will to continue supporting the district hospital towards COVID-19 prevention and treatment,” said Dr. Njikho.

Plan Malawi International Program Area Manager for Mulanje, Christopher Katutu, said at the core of their activities are children who have been greatly affected by the pandemic; hence, their contribution towards the fight against COVID-19.

“We are very much hopeful that the support will go a long way in addressing some challenges the district hospital has been facing in fighting against COVID-19,” said Katutu

Vice Chairperson of Mulanje District Council, Councilor Innocent Kaliati, hailed the organization for its support towards both prevention and treatment of COVID-19 and environmental cleanliness.

Some of the donated items were gas cylinders, medical and cloth face masks, chlorine, shovels, rakes and work suits.
