Smile Life Pushes Universities to Be Innovative

An insurance company says government can achieve the creation of 1 million jobs if institutions of higher learning are geared to scale up hands on entrepreneurship and innovations programs.

Speaking on Friday during the fulfilment of the K5.5 million for Vice Chancellor Innovation Award at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Chief Executive Officer for Smile Life Insurance Company, Stain Singo, said the country needs to use all available means to achieve industrial development.

“The country has the potential to develop through achievement of commercialization to boost the economy,” said Singo.

MUST Vice Chancellor, Professor Address Malata, has since asked the private sector to award outstanding girls that are in universities in order to create competition in science and innovation.

“Most girls are struggling to access higher education in the country. We therefore ask for support of such vulnerable girls,” Prof Malata said.

She further explained that MUST will do its best to assist government achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the areas of science, innovation and entrepreneurship.
