Women who work for Machinga District Council under the banner Victorious Women of Prayer on Thursday afternoon cheered some ailing and elderly people in the district.

They donated food and nonfood items to them.

Machinga District Commissioner, Rosemary Nawasha, led her fellow women in cheering about 10 households of the elderly.

"We spared about K200 thousand from the offerings we offer at our every meeting for prayers and this enabled us to buy several food and nonfood items we have donated during the visit.

"We feel this is part of our prerogatives as we do not need to have much to help others," said Nawasha.

70-year-old Alice Afiya of Chabwera Village, Traditional Authority Sitola, in the district was all smiles and sang along with the women some spiritual choruses.

"Most of the times I feel neglected and forgotten, but the prayers and the gifts these women brought have revived me in a special way," said Afiya.
