Some senior chiefs in the country have decried government's delay to finish construction of their houses.

Senior Chief Malemia of Nsanje told Zodiak Online that his project dates back to late President Bingu wa Mutharika's regime, over 10 years ago. It remains incomplete.

"I don't know what is happening. Imagine, a house initiated over 10 years ago still under construction? it is a concern," lamented Chief Malemia.

"We play critical roles in the country's development, we have so much to do in every sector," said Senior Chief Malemia.

Another chief, Senior Chief Kasakula of Ntchisi claims government initiated two different projects.

"I have two foundations here initiated in 2013 and 2019. There is nothing on the ground. I am asking myself, so government also lies?"

The Ntchisi Senior Chief further accused government of favouring some chiefs.

"There are some chiefs who have two houses when some of us have nothing. We are all equal and we play critical roles in the delivery of government's development agenda," said Chief Kasakula.

Ministry of Local Government Spokesperson, Anjoya Mwanza, has assured the chiefs that the projects will resume "as soon as the funds are available."
