Board Chairman of MAP, Tom Mwamadi, says for instance, many people including children are on the waiting list to be admitted at Kachere because of lack of space.

“Kachere Rehabilitation Centre is the only medical rehabilitation centre in the country. Currently, the center is facing a lot of challenges including lack of transport, shortage of staff and space to admit patients. We want government to assist us,” said Mwamadi.

He added that there is need to put in place vibrant outreach programs in order to enhance rehabilitation services in various rural parts of the country.

In her remarks, after opening the newly constructed ward at Kachere rehabilitation center with funding from General Alliance insurance, Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda explained that government is working hard to promote quality health services to all Malawians.

One of the directors of General Alliance Insurance, Modecai Msisha SC, has asked government to rehabilitate all health-related infrastructure to ensure that citizens are receiving treatment in a favorable environment.

“It is sad that most donated buildings and items are lying idle yet citizens are struggling to access better services in different public health facilities. I urge government to maintain the items,” said Msisha.

General Alliance Insurance has spent 50 million kwacha to construct the ward at Kachere Rehabilitation Centre.
