South East Region Police Reduces Crime

South East Region Police Commissioner, Chikondi Chingadza, says the region has reduced crimes by 8% in 2021 as compared to 2020.

In a statement released on Monday, January 24, 2022, Commissioner Chingadza, however, indicates that traffic offenses have gone up by 13%.

Commissioner Chingadza says in 2020, 7, 149 offenses were recorded while 6, 610 were registered in 2021.

The Commissioner has, however, indicated that despite the decrease in criminal offenses, the region also registered a 13 percent increase in road accidents from 387 in 2020 to 437 in 2021.

"Despite the decrease in crime management the region registered 13% increase in traffic offenses in 2021," indicated Chingadza.

She further expressed worry over the increased cases of mob justice and murder in the just ended year.

"Culture, weak community policing committees, ignorance of the law and long distance from police formations were some of the factors fueling the vice," she added.

On the other hand, South East Police Commissioner has warned law enforcers against corrupt practices.

South East Region Police covers Phalombe, Mulanje, Thyolo, Chikwawa and Nsanje districts.
