Flood Survivors Call for Resettlement Package

Some flood Survivors who have been displaced by the recent cyclone Ana and are living at Medram displaced camp in Chikwawa have appealed to government to consider providing to them a resettlement package apart from relief items.
The development comes after it has been established that of the 250 households who were at the camp only 100 have returned to their respective homes.
One of the flood survivors, Ronald Sankhulani said he cannot be able to return to his home as his house was completely destroyed and all his crops and livestock were washed away.
"İf I am to return home, there will be no shelter for us as our house was completely destroyed. All the crops and livestock were also washed away.
“We are therefore appealing if government can consider providing a rescue package to us in form of plastic sheets which we can use in constructing our houses. If we can also be provided with some early maturing crops so that we should plant once we go home , it can really help”, he said.
Meanwhile Commissioner for Disaster Affairs Charles Kalemba says government is already working on providing a rescue package to the flood survivors
Social Media grouping called friends of Chitawira over the weekend donated some food and none food items at the camp namely flour, soya pieces, salt, buckets and clothes.
Chairperson for the grouping Martin Chiphwanya said the Items cost the grouping about K500 000 put together by the members of the grouping.
