Charity Grouping Donates to Mothers at MHG Hospital

A charity organization, Friends of Mponda, has donated 500 thousand kwacha assorted items to 65 mothers in the maternity ward at Machinga District Hospital as a way of celebrating the birthday of its Executive Director, Asma Mponda.

Spokesperson for the organization, Steve Sabola, said they decided to take advantage of the celebration to cheer the mothers and give them a stepping stone as most of them are poor.

"We are excited to deliver these gifts here as it was a wish of our executive director whose life we are celebrating today.

"I hope these materials will impact the lives of these mothers and babies in a different way," said Sabola.

One of the beneficiaries, Eluby Wilson has pleaded for more support as her child will require milk and clothes.

Officer in charge of the ward, Alexander Matola has commended the grouping for the gesture but says the ward faces challenges like shortage of drugs, with an average of 35 children being born daily.

"Most women here in Machinga are poor and such assistance is very critical in this time when they have kids. I would like to thank this group for this guesture," said Matola.

Some of the items donated are blankets, cooking oils and soaps.
