The Chewa Heritage Foundation (CHEFO) says it has dissolved a committee which was organizing the Mkumano wa Achewa fundraiser in preparation for Kulamba cultural event.

The Foundation says it also does not recognize hip hop star, Tay Grin, as its ambassador and also for the fundraising event which was slated for June 25th, 2022 at Civo stadium in Lilongwe.

CHEFO National Chairperson, Dr. Stanly Khaila, told media in Blantyre on Monday that the committee was not following the Foundation's constitution.

“The organizing committee unveiled Tay Grin as CHEFO Brand Ambassador without the knowledge of the steering committee of CHEFO or its chairman,” he said.

Dr. Khaila added that the committee also “opened a bank account in the name of CHEFO without the knowledge of the steering committee or its chairman. It was receiving cash donations and was not depositing the funds into CHEFO account as required.”

Following the dissolution, Dr. Khaila says the organizing committee has been reconstituted and has shifted the fundraiser to 11 July, 2022 at the same venue.

CHEFO is in process of mobilizing resources to enable more people attend the Kulamba cultural which will take on 27 August, 2022 at Mkaika in Zambia.

A week ago, the dissolved committee unveiled Tay Grin in Blantyre as ambassador to assist in mobilizing the resources.

Kulamba is an annual event where the Chewas from Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique pay homage to their king, Kalonga Gawa Undi, at Mkaika in Zambia.
