The Association's president, Amon Ntafya has told Zodiak Online that for instance it is only when private schools are registered with government that they are allowed to become Malawi National Examination (MANEB) centers.

He added that registered private schools have got a chance to improve their education standards as they are inspected regularly and advised on areas of improvement.

"We have noted mushrooming of private schools in the country recently most of which are not registered with government. This is indeed a sad development as apart from such private schools denying themselves an opportunity to grow, such school are also contributing to lowering education standards in the country", he said.

On his part , PRISAM board of trustees, Enerst Kaonga says they are trying to revive the oldest private schools association in the country for it to become an alternative umbrella organisation for private schools in the country in order to maximise the voice of private schools in the country.

Apart from PRISAM, private schools in the country also belong to the Independent Schools Association of Malawi (ISAMA).

Meanwhile Ministry of education spokesperson, Chikondi Chimala says the ministry will intensify inspection in private schools in the country and those found defying registration requirement shall be penalised.
