The High Court in Lilongwe has granted Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda a preservation order in a case which he is challenging management of bus depots by National Bus Company.

Justice William Msiska has, among others, prohibited National Bus Service from collecting any gate pass and user fees at any bus depot and terminals and that they must account for all fees they collected previously.

The Court has also directed the ministry of local government, through the Attorney General, Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda to allow local councils to start managing the facilities.

National Bus Company obtained an injunction stopping ministry of local government through local councils from managing Mzuzu, Wenela, Makata, Lilongwe bus depots, Kasungu and Mzimba bus terminals.

Last week, the High Court in Blantyre dismissed an application by the National Bus Company who applied for a judicial review in a matter the company was claiming ownership of the country’s bus facilities, previously owned by Shire Bus Lines.
