One Dies in Mangochi Road Accident

A 34-year-old man identified as Clement Masoambeta has died in Mangochi after being involved in a road accident between a motorcycle he was riding and a motor vehicle.

According to Deputy Spokesperson for Mangochi Police Station, Sergeant Vincent Kapichi, the accident occurred in the evening of Thursday, August 11, 2022, along Mangochi Monkey Bay road.

Kapichi said the motor vehicle registration number BJ 1076, Isuzu lorry which was being driven by Dawa Mala, 52, was coming from Monkey Bay direction heading towards Mangochi Boma while a motorcycle registration number KU 9464 which Masoambeta was using coming from the direction of Mangochi heading towards Monkey Bay.

He said, upon reaching a place called Samama, the driver of a motor vehicle tried to overtake another vehicle and, in the process, hit the oncoming motorcycle.

Following the impact Masoambeta who was working as a clinician at Mangochi District Hospital sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures on the right arm as well as the right leg and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the district hospital, according to Kapichi.

Currently, Mala who hails from Kalonga village, Traditional Authority Mponda in the same District is in Police custody waiting for court proceedings, according to Kapichi who also appealed to all road users to always follow road safety measures to avoid such accidents.
