14 Minors on Remand for Alleged Murder

Ministry of Gender says a total of 14 children have been remanded to the country’s two reformatory centres for alleged murder since January this year.

Spokesperson for the ministry Fred Simwaka, has confirmed the development told Zodiak Online on Tuesday that Mpemba Boys Home has  four minors while the remaining ten are committed to Chilwa Approved School.

Simwaka says with 14 minors connected to murder, some children are remanded to the reformatory centres for other criminal offense like housebreaking, defilement and robbery.

"For example, Chilwa reformatory school has 71 housebreaking cases, six are defilement, two  are unlawful wounding while one was committed to the school for malicious damage," said Simwaka.

Meanwhile, Child rights activist, Memory Ngosi says she is not with the numbers hence calling for concerted  efforts to urgently address the trend.

"We need join hands to ensure  such cases are reduced in the country, recently, street children have been terrorizing cities," said Ngosi.

Over the years, street children have been terrorizing the country’s major cities and towns through robberies and  harassing women.
