Two men are in police custody in Limbe on suspicion that they kidnapped an 8-year-old boy on 8 September 2022 in Kanjedza residential area in Blantyre city.

Limbe Police Station Public Relations Officer, Inspector Patrick Mussa, told Zodiak on Thursday that it is alleged that John Mapunda, 47, and Isaac Bokosi, 54, on the said date, abducted the boy 100 meters away from his compound as he was coming from school with his sister.

“It is also believed that at around 12noon, after knocking off from school, the minibus dropped both of them 100 metres away from their house in Kanjedza.

“An unknown person called the two, pretending to know them, but suddenly came a black Honda Freed motor vehicle Registration Number not known, and then the boy was by force, grabbed into the vehicle and drove off to an unknown destination, leaving his sister behind,” explained Mussa.

Mussa says the boy was found five days later, dumped in the same area in Kanjedza close to where he was captured.

John Mapunda hails from Chilumba village in the area of Traditional Authority Wasambo in Karonga, whilst Isaac Bokosi comes from Thanguni village, Traditional Authority Mthiramanja in Thyolo.

A similar incident happened some months ago in the same commercial city.
