TEVETA Public Relations Officer, Lewis Msasa has attributed the development to their sensitization campaigns they have been conducting with the general public on how the authority receive fee payments.

"Fraudsters have for the past years managed to defraud some of our students but this year we intensified our campaigns which has given us positive fruits. We hope the trend continues like this, as we are working with security agencies in the country," Msasa said

ICT Association of Malawi President, Bram Fudzulani says such cases can not be completely dealt with, attributing it to lack of reporting by victims of such cases.

He however, says, there is need to introduce cyber security awareness month in the country to support the electronic transaction act of 2016.

"Like the country's reserve bank does with it financial literacy education, we need to have a month as well to educate people against cyber crimes and how they can protect themselves against the vice. The battle against mobile fraud can not be won is a year but it's a process," Fudzulani said.

In November last year, five pre-apprentice students were duped by unscrupulous individuals who were posing as TEVET authorities by demanding school fees payment through mobile money services.
