The Ministry of Health through the Neno District health Office and Partners in Health (PIH) has called on people to change their lifestyles.

The two have cited excessive beer drinking, smoking and unbalanced diet as some of the lifestyles that need change.

They were speaking today on the sidelines of the district's Diabetes Commemorations Day in Neno where Director of Health and Social Services at Neno district council, Dr. Grace Momba reminded the people that the disease is manageable when diagnosed early.

"Nationally, there are three people in every one hundred who are diabetic, meaning 2.6 or three of our 20 million plus population while at district level, we have three hundred," revealed Momba.

Lothiar Ngulube from Partners in Health underscored the need for partners to join hands in spreading information concerning the disease.

"Our role is to compliment governments programs in disease management, and we are helping our hospitals across Neno with insulin to manage the patients," narrated Ngulube.

PIH opened a state-of-the-art Non-communicable Diseases centre inside the Neno district hospital campus as a way of providing quality health care to the people around Neno and beyond.

One patient, Agnes White, says “at first, I thought I was been bewitched but when I visited the health center and got diagnosed with diabetes, I started receiving treatment and here I am, very healthy."
