The Neno district National Initiative for Civic Education Trust officer Wallace Kudzara says the Multi Annual Program Estimates (MAPE) project has promoted transparency and accountability among duty bearers and people's right to demand for justice in the district.

Kudzara said this on Thursday during a stallholders’ meeting on MAPE where he said that people of Neno are now demanding their rights and development through establishment of Citizen Forums in all four traditional authorities of the district.

"MAPE was initiated in 2016 to strengthen people's capacity to demand transparency and accountability and also to empower them to demand justice, and these have been achieved," said Kudzara.

He said that his organisation partnered with civil society organizations and other structures such as Court Users Committees and Citizen Forums to foster accountability and access to justice.

Meanwhile, Neno district Civil Society Organisations Network chairperson Samson Njolomole has asked council authorities to be open to citizens and CSOs on completed projects budget breakdowns.

Njolomole further said that most officials like members of parliament shun stakeholders’ meetings meant to outline developmental activities, which he says is a blow to the realization of meaningful cohesion.

"Most MPs and councilors plus council officials do not come out clearly on how they use funds and mostly this derails people's will to partake in development activities," worried Njolomole.

The MAPE initiative is a European Union funded activity under the Chilungamo project.
