Mphande to Manage Nthondwa
Social media influencer, Pemphero Mphande, has signed Hip-Hop artist, Nthondwa, real name Chawanangwa Malanga, 28, on a one-year K5 million management deal under his company, 265Dates.
Mphande who successfully managed Keturah to stardom said he has taken up the rapper because of his authentic music.
He said: “Nthondwa is special and does authentic music which makes him stand out and it’s not just because he does music in Tumbuka.”
“I will mostly be involved in his brand management. The money is coming from my company, #265Dates and the deal package (renewable) is K2.5 million in the first year and another in the preceding year which includes studio and music video production and charity works,” he added.
Nthondwa, a part time lecturer of Media for Development at the University of Malawi in Zomba said he was excited to finally put the pen to paper with Pemphero.
“I want to use my art to break the stereotypes of tribalism and language which is why I only rap in Tumbuka to evoke the emotions and tell people to start embracing their culture through language.”
Nthondwa believes “language is very big aspect of culture, so, if young people who I appeal to embrace it, they will keep it alive.”
He disclosed that under the deal there are a number of songs that will be put out, and it’s not just music, we also have charity works, and music related type of projects marketing, videography and music production.
“Basically we are trying to use art to effect change,” he said.
Nthondwa has previously worked with music sensation, RashLey, Leslie Moyo on “Nkhwiza” and also featured fellow Hip-Hop artist, Gwamba on “Yewo Dada” in the latter’s 2022 True Independence album.
Nthondwa’s video “Nthowa” a 2021 release continues to enjoy airplay on local television stations.
