EPM Managing Director David Reynolds told Zodiak Online that it is important to cover all bare grounds with trees and he said this should be the role of every citizen in Malawi.

“We are committed to assist people in afforestation and just like every Malawian, EPM is also affected by the effects of deforestation and as you know we are in agriculture industry which heavily rely on water and in the absence of trees we cannot have this water for the growth of our tea,” said Reynolds.

He said this year they have raised over 60 thousand tree seedlings and they are ready for planting.

Commissioner of Police for South East Region Chikondi Chingadza said the Malawi Police Service has not been spared by effects of climate change like floods and storms that are as a result of careless cutting down of trees.

She said this is the reason the law enforcers are also encouraged to participate in restoration of the environment. 

“We say thank you to EPM for supporting us with these tree seedlings which we believe will make a difference at this police formation and let me urge all police officers in the region and the whole country to plant trees around their offices and houses,” said Commissioner Chingadza.

According to EPM’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Rabson Kachilele, the company plans to launch another tree planting exercise next week in Thyolo.
