Children were seen braving cold weather while crammed in classrooms at Naotcha and Manja primary schools.

A 15-year-old girl told us that she is still in a state of shock as her mother is still missing.

She is now nursing her one-year old sibling at Manja evacuation centre.

Politicians including two Democratic Progressive Party presidential aspirants Kondwani Nankhumwa and Dalitso Kabambe and Homeland Security minister, Ken Zikhale Ng'oma, were some of them that visited some camps in Blantyre.

Nankhumwa said there is a need to collaborate to make sure that the affected people are supported and encouraged to live in safe places and not in hills.

He said this when he visited several camps and supported the victims with various assorted items.

Ng’oma said that as bodies are still being removed from some hilly areas around Soche, time is now to think of removing all illegal settlers from these fragile areas.

On his part, Kabambe said Malawi needs to re-think on urban planning saying it was pathetic seeing how the cyclone claimed lives and caused suffering of people.

Meanwhile, Kabambe says he has set aside K18 million to assist affected households with food in Blantyre, Thyolo, Mulanje and Phalombe.
