Nawasha said this on Wednesday at Nchiramwera court and Mbandanga Primary school after the council through the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) started assisting 754 families with relief items in the district.

She gave an example of Nsuwazi bridge along Thyolo-Thekerani-Bangula road which has been cut off making some areas inaccessible and forcing authorities to use several vehicles and people to transport relief items through a make-shift bridge to the other side.

Nawasha says they have distributed 1, 050 blankets, 21 bags of beans and jerry cans to ease the devastation of the affected communities.

"The roads have been cut off, some bridges have been washed away so much that transportation from one place to another is very difficult. As you can see, at this point we wanted to deliver the items to those in the camps but we couldn't to the other side," Nawasha said.

She has since pledge that maize is on its way from government, calling on others to come in since the need is dire.

Survivors, Magret Muumbaza and Esita Piyasoni have described the cyclone as devastating since they have lost everything.

In this regard, the two have called for more support.

So far, eight people have died in the district and 19 camps have been established in the district.
