The items are coming at a time when the survivors have spent almost a week without any assistance.

Making the first donation on Monday at Matandani Health Centre, Neno District Council Relief and Rehabilitation officer Brighton Mphinga says the items being distributed include part of the maize donated by the Department of Disaster Management Affairs and BOHF's food and nonfood items.

"We hope to roll out to all the affected traditional authorities like Dambe, Chekucheku and Symon," he said.

Beyond our Hearts Foundation executive director, Russel Msiska says his organisation is shocked with the damage that the cyclone has caused on the 180 households it has touched.

He says " through our Localisation Pilot project being championed by our council, we will make sure that we release funds interms of food and nonfood so that our people are cautioned."

Receiving the donation, Enesi Kachigamba and Bester Harty, all from Kaluphya village, T/A Chekucheku, thanked DoDMA and BOHF for the gesture.

"We were nothing in the past week but now with these buckets, maize and maize flour, plastic rolls, Soya Pieces, sait and kitchen utensils, we are better to go," said Kachigamba.

Other partners that are assisting final council assessments on the actual figures of the affected include, Partners in Health, Concern World Wide, World Vision among others.

Many parts of the district are being inaccessible with the relief items due to cut off roads and lack of heavy vehicles.

They include the area of Senior Chief Symon and Dambe were bridges and roads have been cut off and many places are slippery for lighter vehicles.
