Mangochi Records Ninth Murder Cases since Jan 2023

Police in Mangochi district have arrested Frank Nasangwe, 22, for suspecting that he stabbed to death his fellow street food seller, Afick Peter, 30, over a piece of firewood.

Mangochi police station spokesperson, Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, said the incident which happened on the night of March 19, 2023 at Admarc Market, within Mangochi township has brought the number of murder cases to 9 since January 2023 up from 8 in the same period in 2022.

Inspector Tepani Daudi said, according to their findings, both Nasangwe and Peter were selling chips at the said market and it is alleged that Peter on the said night took a piece of firewood from Nasangwe without his consent, a thing which annoyed him.

She said the two picked a quarrel and in the heat of exchanging words, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed him on the chest and he collapsed instantly.

She said the matter was reported to them the same night where the patrol team rushed to the place where Peter was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood.

Tepani Daudi said the team took him to Mangochi district hospital where he died upon arrival due to internal bleeding, and  Nasangwe was arrested and charged with murder.

The suspect hails from Mkwaila Village, Traditional Authority Kalembo in Balaka.
