The area which has been inaccessible due to bad road networks as the Mangochi-Makanjira road has been cut-off in several places, with some bridges washed away.

However, on Monday minister of energy, Ibrahim Matola, authorities from the district council and Department of Disaster Management Affairs, managed to visit some survivors at St. Joseph camp and Chilawi village where they also left maize flour, beans and cooking oil.

Matola told them that the government will use any means to reach them with support despite the bad road network and ask them to share equally the little they will receive until things get better.

Traditional Authority Namabvi expressed gratitude saying the coming alone of high government officials is a relief on its own to the people of the areas since they had nothing to eat.

Namavi said apart from food and shelter, it is difficult for the people in the area to access health services as the roads have been damaged.

Member of parliament for the area, Mangochi Lutende constituency, Idrissa Kazembe, said he was happy that at last people have started receiving relief items.

Kazembe said he will continue asking the authorities to make sure that people have been helped.

Apart from Namabvi, there are other places like Chiunda, Malombe, Makanjira and Lulanga where according to authorities requires airlifting of relief items.
