Freddy Costs Muloza Border K316m March Revenue

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) says it has failed to beat the K544 million revenue collection target for March at Muloza border 10 days ago.

Tropical cyclone Freddy has had a stint on revenue collection for the Authority as operations at Muloza Border in Mulanje have been suspended following heavy floods which were induced by the disaster.

The disaster saw the border post and other surrounding areas being submerged.

The disruption has since seen the revenue generating body collecting K228 million from the targeted the month of March.

Speaking to Zodiak on Wednesday, MRA Marketing and Communications Manager Wilma Chalulu told us that they are looking for alternative routes within the southern region to replace the border post as they wait for the situation to stabilize.

“We have managed to collect 50%that was required but moving forward we will look for alternative posts and routes until business gets to normal,” she said.

Muloza border post borders Mozambique's southern province of Tete.
