Mw Land Rover Defender Aids NN Cyclone Freddy Survivors
The Malawi Land Rover Defender club has mobilised over eleven vehicles to assist Cyclone Freddy relief items distribution exercise in Neno North Constituency hard to reach areas.
The area around Senior Chief Dambe has over one hundred sixty eight households affected by the cyclone aftermath.
The club's chairperson Penjani Msowoya told Zodiak Online on Sunday, that they believe in charity works hence their move to assist the Neno District Council in the relief distribution.
"We received a call from the member of parliament of this area that some areas are being hard to reach with relief items hence our coming here," said Msowoya.
He then said that, their members are also helping places like Chikwawa, Mulanje, Blantyre among other areas were the deadly cyclone caused unspeakable damage to both property and human lives.
In his remarks, Nno District Commissioner Hudson Kuphanga acknowledged mobility challenges his council is facing in distributing relief items hence thanking the club for its initiative.
He said that the Lilongwe District Council has already responded to the mobility challenges by sending sending a lorry to the district to aid distribution of both items donated by the Department of Disaster Management Affiars and from kind organisations and people.
DC Kuphanga added that " The council is facing challenges to reach the people in hard to reach areas due to among other things lack of heavy duty vehicles and roads that were cut off by flooding water."
Meanwhile, MP for the area, Thoko Tembo says the club apart from aiding distribution of council aid, it is also providing maize flour, soya pieces, salt, plastic rolls among others.
Tembo then said he hopes the items donated will help the affected people to start rebuilding their lives.
In lower Neno, eleven houses have been completely destroyed with many people displaced.
