EPM Hands Over K25 Million VSU at Thyolo Police Station

South East Police Region Commissioner, Chikondi Chingadza and Senior chief Nchiramwera of Thyolo have asked stakeholders including estate players to help in renovating or constructing new district police offices.
The Police commissioner and the chief have decried that the police officers are operating in the very old infrastructure which are in poor state and demotivating.
"I hope if all the estates here team up to support, Thyolo Police Station would have a very good office infrastructure not this very old structures," Senior chief Nchiramwera added.
The two made the plea on Thursday when Eastern Produce Malawi (EPM) handed over a K25 million Victim Support Unit (VSU) on the sidelines of a Women's International Day commemorations at Thyolo police station.
They have since commended Eastern Produce Malawi (EPM) for constructing the Unit at the police station, indicating that it will motivate more victims of Gender Based Violence to report.
EPM's Managing Director, David Reynolds has indicated apart from establishing grievance policies and empowering their women staff through education scholarships, the unit symbolises their firm stance against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the district.
"Gender issues are mainstream for us. We have to work together ourselves to get to zero tolerance," he said.
Meanwhile, Thyolo District Police has recorded 18 GBV cases from January to February 2023 which is way below 27 cases of the same period last year.
