Police at Bvumbwe in Thyolo district have arrested two people on suspicion that they have stolen 20 bags of maize and 100 packs of Likuni phala for Tropical Cyclone Freddy survivors.

Limbe Police Spokesperson, Patrick Mussa, has identified the two as Watson Gumbala aged 61, an Area Development Committee (ADC) chairperson for Sub-Traditional Maggie and a 48-year-old man, Graves Luhanga.

Mussa told Zodiak Online on Thursday that Faith Nkhamula, who is Thyolo District Disaster Management Officer reported that the two created a fake evacuation camp camping at Nyambalo primary school.

Mussa alleged after that they requested some relief aid from the district council, stating that there are some Cyclone Freddy survivors in need.

He added following that, the council dispatched a lorry carrying the items, "20 bags of maize and 100 packs of Likuni phala".

However, it is reported that the accused shared the relief items and sold out some bags to different people at Bvumbwe market.
