Health authorities in Neno district say they have contained the cholera outbreak at Chiwale Secondary School which reported eleven active cases of the disease last week.

Two of the infected students were admitted to Neno district hospital treatment centre after showing severe signs while the rest were housed at the school's isolation camp.

According to the authorities, all the students have since been discharged.

Neno DHO Director of Health and Social Services, Dr. Enock Ndarama told Zodiak Online today that the situation is stable with no cases among the students.

He added that that "we have advised school management to proceed with classes as usual but it is up to the school's management to see how best to proceed with the classes."

The DHSS says that they instituted infection prevention and control measures to stop the spread, which they say are working since no case has been recorded for three to four days now.

Neno has in the past 24 hours recorded additional two cases, pushing the cumulative figure to 770 with 10 deaths.

One case is at the Neno DHO treatment centre and the other at Zalewa cholera treatment centre.
