BERTHA Investments in Neno district has joined hands with the district council in garbage collection from all markets and turn them into compost manure as a way of combating cholera and malaria among other infections.

Manager for BERTHA Investments Bertino Mpapa has told  Zodiak Online today, Wednesday, that apart from cleaning up surroundings, farmers will also have a chance to buy cheaper fertilizer at a convenient point.

He said that, his dream of owning a compost manufacturing hub started way back but he was lacking a space to conduct his business, forcing his to manure at a small scale at his compound.

The BERTHA Investments manager then called on people of Neno to take advantage of his business to reduce distance they travel to purchase government subsidised fertilizer which often come late due to the district due to its topography.

Neno District Commissioner Hudson Kuphanga has since commended the initiative, saying fertilizer should be cheaper and closer to the people especially those in hard to reach areas like Neno.

He further says that due to the degradation of the soils due to chemical fertilizers, there is a great need to reclaim the natural nutrients through the application of compost manure.

Kuphanga added that fair biding of council owned facilities is paramount in bringing the much needed development as people with keen interest are awarded the contract to run a business facility.

A farmer from Donda village, Jack Tiyende Banda thanked the Investment saying Neno for long has had no company in manure making hence his appeal to other farmers to buy the cheapest fertilizer and use the extra money for seed buying.

The first sales, according to Mpapa is due in May this year where a 20 litres pale will fetch at K2,000 while a 50kgs bag will sell at K6,000 for a start.
