Thomas Youth Network Set up a Technical Skills School

Tired with growing unemployment levels and bad behaviors among the youths, on Wednesday Thomas Youth Network in Thyolo launched a technical skills initiative.

Speaking at Folopesi Ground, Chairperson for the network, Mbazu Desire, said after waiting for a long time, they have managed to contribute resources, bought two sewing machines and carpentry tool boxes, urging other stakeholders to come in.

Mbazu said this is after they had waited for for a long time to have the skills development centre in the area to curb increased unemployment levels and misbehaviour among the youths.

"As a starting point, from Monday, we are enrolling 60 youths into carpentry and tailoring trades. We don't want to look down upon ourselves because we the future of today," he said.

Senior Chief Thomas has lauded the youths for the initiative and cautioned them against selling the materials.

"Some deliberately misappropriate the tools due to disagreements among the youths. I have warned against that," he said.

Meanwhile, a local NGO the Chifundo Mande Foundation has donated construction and carpentry tools, which, according to it's representative Tarcicious Chikuni, will help the youth in the area become self-reliant.

Thyolo district has about 340, 000 youths with one Milonga community technical college.
